We feel strongly that extra-curricular activities contribute to the development of the whole child. Upon appointment to the school all staff are encouraged to contribute to extra-curricular activities enabling us to offer a wide range of options to pupils.
Sporting activities include clubs in football, dance, rugby, table tennis, netball, cricket, cross-country, basketball, aerobics, rounders and athletics.
The school is represented in all local leagues with competitions against other schools and within school through society competitions. Highlights are the annual Sports Day which involves pupils competing in their societies across a range of traditional events. In addition the Bowland Sports Day includes; tug o’ war, archery and beat the keeper in order to involve all of our pupils. We also host an annual swimming gala at Roefield swimming baths, which is another well supported society event. Of course, non-sporting extra-curricular activities are just as important!
Many subject areas have a help group at lunchtime e.g. mathematics, humanities, science, STEM, drama, art, chess, sign language and Lego club.
The reading club takes place at morning break in the library in addition to a number of book clubs at lunchtime each day.
Each year the school presents a whole school production that is held at The Grand in Clitheroe which gives pupils the opportunity to work in a professional venue. The school choir is also very popular and is a well-attended activity. Throughout the year the school produces a number of events including musical evenings, talent shows and dance spectaculars.
Personal Development Days (BE-U)
A number of days in the summer term are dedicated to personal development days with a wide range of activities available for all pupils. These include themed day visits and residential trips both within Britain and abroad. Experienced team leaders run all the trips with visits planned well in advance to aid parents.
Recent visits have included a water sports trip to Austria, a German/history visit to Berlin, a French visit to the Opal Coast, a London Theatre Trip and more local multi-activity trips to outdoor education centres.

Please Note – afterschool fixtures in various sports will also run alongside this timetable and will take priority over clubs. Therefore, if staff are attending a fixture, the club will not run. It is important the pupils read the messages or see a member of the PE department if unsure.
Club/Fixture Cancellations – occasionally some practices and fixtures will be cancelled at short notice due to staff availability, adverse weather etc. We will try our best to post this on social media or communicate by email. However, we will occasionally rely the pupils contacting parents via mobile phones during the school day. If parents are ever unsure, please call the school reception.
