Quarry Bank Trip

19 November, 2016

Year 8 had a fabulous day visiting Quarry Bank textile mill in Cheshire. This trip was to help them experience what life might have been like as a mill worker during the industrial revolution. The pupils had a chance to visit the different floors of the textile museum and see all the different machinery being demonstrated. They soon found out that even one machine working was really noisy.

They also had a chance to visit the apprentice house and learn about the lives of those children who were signed up until the age of 21 to work in the mill in return for board and lodging (but no pay!). Many of them realised that actually life in school isn’t that bad after all in comparison to what their life would have been like nearly 100 years ago!
